Gurumin - Parin
|
I don't publish alot of sketches because 1) I don't really like showing off unfinished work 2) Sometimes my roughs can be very rough. Since I ink myself and all, I don't need to make some lines clear and detailed enough for someone else to know what is intended. In the anti-artist way comic published forced a sperate inker on artists, they often had that problem.. and results can vary..
and there are probebly a couple of other non-important reasons too.
Anyway.. from the early 2000s PC game (.. ugh.. okay, lets explain that bit.. release in Japan on PC in 2004. Didn't get a worldwide PC release until 2015. In the mean time, the PSP port came out in 2006, with worldwide in 2007, and there was a 3Ds port in 2016) 'Gurumin' is a nice fun game.. i would say more geared towards younger Action-Adventure players but the skill level for some bits can be far more advanced then you would think it looks like it's for. Translation doesn't appear too bad though you are left with a couple of minor issues (like the odd spelling mistake or grammatrical error.. like me ^_^, and a bigger one with Obake being translated as 'Monster'... I guess it's not wrong persay but.. 'Spirit/Ghost' is normally what I would do.. and when you look at the 'Monsters' in that light, they make alot more sense..
All about 12 year old Parin who is pretty bored, and as the only kid in town, finds out about the monsters/Spirit/Ghosts who only kids can see and she plays with them and helps with with aid of a legendary Drill weapon. And she loves smashing pots.
I was a bit bored at work, so I did this pretty quick sketch of Parin in her normal outfit (unlockable headgear is a MUST in the game as they give various features to help you, and you can unlock harder to get new outfits). After drawing this, I noticed two major problems.. one is the drill isn't quite right.. the second is I kinda gave her shorts instead of her skirt.. IF I felt like inking it (which I might do someday, but not likely anytime soon, which is why I'm posting this), both are an easy fix. It's kinda weird that there doesn't seam to be alot of love out there for Gurumin.. it's a cute non-franctice adventure.. there is also a BIT of a big problem with a hard to unlock bonus character who can replace Parin... but uses the same dialogue.. calling her Sword a 'Drill' and all.. really could have tried to work on a alternative script (there is a different script (a bit) for new game+ (different skill levels) in the Japanese but that wasn't translated over.. Dub voices aren't bad but can sound a bit.. stiff.
